The Lameness….
I was browsing Andy's Blog n' read that Caustic Tech made another post. His shit's always got ya nodding your head n' even going so far as saying “fuck yeah” aloud in yer cubicle. lol. I like his most recent post more productive, or more…moronic??.
I sat there reading it.. Nodding my head.. saying “yup.. I'm one of those fucked up HTMLers”.. Jumped on that static bandwagon back in the day, upgraded to making crappy dynamic content, and now I'm out there making these “far to complex” content management systems for businesses around my area based on a mix of a languages coded with absolutely no quality, orginization, or flow. It's “Here, now, it works, done”.
I didn't 'just' realize this though. I've been off and on over the past few years attempting to work my way into C/C++ with unhealthy amounts of failure. Guess that “Learn C++ in 3 seconds” book just didn't do the trick. lol. If you associate moronic in his post with it's link to the “create shit supa-dupa-fast without thinking till yer done” idea you'd come to the conclusion he was trying to make intensly obvious. Every time I look back at all the weak crap I've developed I always find myself going “wtf.. who in their right mind”.. I can't decide weather developing is something some people just CAN'T do right (or learn right cuz ANYONE can pretend) or if it just requires formal education for some. I like to think that if I did 'LEARN' to code in a better language through formal education I would begin producing better material but I'm pretty sure that won't make a difference. I'm 'bout gauranteed to keep writing sloppy, nasty, ass-backwards C++ code to provide more un-neccessarily flaky bits n' pieces of software to our already overflowing world of 1's n' 0's..
My Conclusion…
This is where the 'REAL' programmers are gunna bitchslap me into tommarow.. Sorry Andy. <-- only guy I realy know that knows wtf's goin on. Seems like I know to many people who talk a lotta shit but never seem to produce.
I don't seem to have a problem finding business developing content management systems for clients anywhere I go. The systems I've made “work”. I've never left a project that was flaky or “almost” worked so 90% of the time the business sits on the software for a coulpe years no problem. I did my part, made a some funds, and cleaned up the way they do things. BUT!. That 10% that come to realize they actualy need REAL software are the ones that take my nasty mess of bullshit to a real developer who'll shake their head and go “What the fuck”. For that 10% I say “Start from scratch cuz I'll do it again!”. lol. Love it or hate it, it's how the world turns and is gunna keep turnin. I'm an undereducated HTMLer developing projects FAR beyond my own personal scope of programming one piece at a time but since it's all I've ever done I can about gaurantee it's what I'll continue doing. I know far to many people who do the exact same thing. The only thing I can realy think might help is if somehow ALL of us HTMLers are touched by god and are suddenly enlightened to the right way of doing things before we drop business entirely kicking that other 90% we normaly keep satisfied into the real world. If it wasn't for an abundancy of half-witts tryign to do the full job there wouldn't be anything for the good guys to bitch about and keep them on the high pedistals they sit on. The same applies to everythign that requires anything resembling skill or knowledge. It just kinda sucks that there is no way to split the divisions by maximum skill level as they do in racing but thats a HUGE reason most the people that even look at developing get into it, theres no start, finish, or rank. You got into the field, you acceled in it, you rock. I'm where I'm at, it's doin ME good, I'm happy. Ain't that a bitch?
