V2 Holdups…

May 18th, 2005 by Josh Houghtelin

It just dawned on me that there are links outside of bmt leading in. They aren't leading to JUST the main page. The only reason that just dawned on me is becuase I was skimming over the PHPx version thinking to myself that using the PHPx database setup is an excelent start to maintaining consistancy in this blogs existance. That in fact is not quite the truth although I now will be making note of the things that change and the things that don't.

The image gallery unfortunately has to change. That is one item I am thoroughly disapreciative of, has dropped a nuke on all it's outside links, and doesn't function as I wanted it to. I've already got the new one well under way.

The permalinks to blog posts are going to stay the same. I could probably count the outside links to my blog post permalinks using less than three fingers but nevertheless I'm sticking with consistancy on it. Nearly a year of blogging demands some level of consistancy.

I'm essentialy purging the forums minus “burningtime” which isn't made use of anyway so that shouldn't be much of a deal.

The more I work on V2 the more flash thoughts that go through my head as to why I just didn't read over all the code it took to make PHPx and just edit it. Edit out the gallery, throw in my own. hack the shit out of the template and ability to skin it so it fits theme of look and feel. Then it'd just be down to changing a few hundred minor details and I'd be set to grow on it. Arg. Even though I've got the outline of v2 done leaving me with a few large items to cap off and a plethera of details it still doesn't sound like an absolutely horrid idea.

I remember first being turned on to the code that puts PHPx together becuase it was recently re-written in an OOP PHP. That was sometime last year. I still don't effectively use OOP PHP which is what has probably kept me from doing more with PHPx itself. That just happens to be the reason I SHOULD use it. What a mess. lol.
