Grandpa Houghtelin had a heart attack.
My grandpa on my dads side of the family (Houghtelin) had a heart attack today.
Here's the details. I'll keep adding to this post until all the details are laid out throughout the day. If your reading this, put in a good word with your diety for my grandpa, Byron Houghtelin, pray for a quick & healthy recovery.
7:44 am - My brother Matt called me from his Cell and told me Grandpa had a heart attack. Told me all he knew is they said it was “level 1 and he's on a flight to another hospital”. He also told me that Grandpa drove himself to the hospital from where he lived. No further details
7:45 am - I researched “Level 1″ - I quickly found This Site. The level 1 heart attack program is when they get a patient to Abbot Northwestern in under 90 minutes from contact to undergoe immediate angioplasty. Angioplasty is a method to get the blood flowing again.
7:50 am - Dad calls, I fill him in on what I know. Nothing new.
8:19 am - Dad calls, He said Grandpa was aired into Abbot Northwestern - (612) 838-3130 - a few minutes ago. He knows there was a blockage to the heart. I'm assuming he was aired in at 8:15am. He also mentioned that nobody was droppin hints of him not recovering.
10:28 am - Dad calls, He said Grandpa was undergoing surgery which would be complete in an estimated 4 hours. Calling for information before then wouldn't work. He also said he picked up Scott and went to St. Joes to get Grandpas Truck. They were then heading towards Abbott Northwestern.
3:04 pm - Mom calls, She just wanted to make sure I was informed. She found out around 8 this morning but doesn't know know much. Matt did a fantastic job of spreading the initial word real quick.!. Thanks Matt!
5:10 pm - Dad calls from Grandpas room, He said Gramps is out of surgery & doin ok. Their gunna shackle em up until sunday or monday which seems quick to me but he's recoverin great from what I hear.
I asked a few quick questions b4 lettin em go. Grampa has no memory loss, he remembers everything starting with the tingling feelings in his hands early this morning to now. He was having a hard time breathing as well and figured he'd visit the hospital if it didn't go away by morning. He actualy drove to the hospital in Crosby so I don't know how far he went but I still think it's crazy he drove himself in. Good man tho'. When he got to the hospital he gave them phone numbers to his house and Verna's house. (Verna is Crystal's grandma, My brothers wife.) I believe they diagnosed him fairly quickly (I hope so anyway) and tossed him in a chopper. When I asked my dad how his memory was I heard Grandpa in the background saying something I believe and my dad responded with “oh yeah, says he remembers the hellicopter ride even cuz they wouldn't let him lift his head to look out the window”. Bummer Grampa. hehe. Glad to know yer OK tho'. Scared the SHIT out of me.
5:54 - Called my mums - She already had some info from Scott when they stopped by snatching up Chris 'round 4:pm headin toward Gramps at Abbot Northwestern.
5:56 - Called Matt - Let em know that if he hadn't been filled in he could call dads Cell real quick n' get filled in cuz Gramps got out of surgery.
I didn't know jack diddly about heart attacks till the research today sooo I'm quite a bit more informed. Previously I thought it was more like, fall over now cuz all the blood flow has stopped, or something along those lines. I hadn't stopped for a second to realize the severity of heart attacks can vary as much as they do. It seems like common sense now but shock kicked my ass this mornin so I wasn't quite thinkin 100% straight. All I can say is my gramps better be takin care of himself so I'm not hearin news with that kindof shock value for a looooooong time to come. Go win the $100m lottery now, although it won't have nearly the same shock factor it's about the most shocking news I'm willing to accept. No more crazy shit now ya hear?
I have to thank my brother for calling me so fast. I'm not sure how he found out so quick but it's good being informed of such incidents AS they are happening rather then days, weeks, or even months later. THANKS MATT!!!!
I'll keep adding details until my grandpa is @ home talking to me from his landline.
