Website Promotion
I was just informed that conjuring up traffic for a site is a bit more in-depth then merely being accepted into a search engine. It was like a slap in the face. Apparently having a list of recipricole links excel can't even keep up with isn't acceptable either. There are so many people on the net & so many ways to attract traffic it's almost impossible to figure out wtf is supposed to work for any given site. Since half the people I work for want hits to their site I've come across a shitload of ways to get traffic. Of course in the mid 90's we didn't have these problems & websites were on a “you build it & they will come” basis which is a total lie these days.
Some things i've tackled
Class - Lower class, Middle class, Upper class… Not everyone is Walmart.
Geographics - How much area on the globe can I work with? Sometimes it's a 100 mile radius.
Age - It's easy to get this messed up.
It's easy to spam a bunch of search engines and get useless traffic. To target the exact people you need to can require a tactic of fine science. I've been working with Tony recently on two projects that rock both ends of the difficulty scale of quality traffic harboring.
Bullockmusic.com
This is the easy one. Finding gospel traffic is easy and having a top of the line site takes the difficulty down another invisible notch.
T & M Electronics
This… not so easy. It's a local appliance store. they sell furniture, appliances, electronics, cell phones, and more… They want to use it as an information presentation advertising media requiring minimal interaction. How can you help them locally from the internet? My conclusion is to find or create other sources of local advertising online. All kinds of local orginisations are online. Can't wait to see how it works out. Every project has it's own twist.
Researching local advertising brought me to another idea. I'm interested in finding out if I can get the local schools support, or 'support the local school', in finding out what percentage of our local businesses are online. Make some graphs, learn some stuff, plan to do it next year to follow up. I don't know if they do that kinda stuff or what.
Anyway.. I'm not going anywhere with this - thus the image.
