Auto Insurance is a scam
If you don't think automobile insurance (amungst others) in america is a scam then quit reading.
I have 2 cars a truck and a bike. I've also relatively recently gotten rid of 2 extra cars as well. Needless to say I've learned a little bit about car insurance. Here is a little gliche that works pretty good with Geico.
If you’re like me, you don't insure all your vehicles at the same time. I only insure my cars when I want to drive them, which is very rarely. Going about insurance in this way can be painful as hell so I derived a little operation that makes it more comfortable.
If you call up ANY insurance company and your trying to get a policy but don't currently have one then they totally rip you off. They usually charge me one and a half to two times the regular cost simply because I'm not currently insured. That really sucks. I found out though if you signup with Geico, pay the first ungodly payment to get things rolling and then ignore the second payment (which is generally your first monthly payment) until they cancel your policy. A short while after they cancel you, you can call them back up and tell them you want a policy. They will see that you already have one with them and for some odd reason not charge you that rape-rate. They’ll give you regular rates. So here is how it works for my motorcycle.
I signed up and paid $150 to get things rolling.
My monthly payments were $115 but I ignored the first one.
I called back a few days after they canceled me and told them I didn’t get the bill so I didn’t pay it but I got their cancel notice and want to get some insurance. I then went through the process of getting insurance again but this time I paid $100 the first time and now my monthly payments are $69.
That really helps. A year of paying $69/mo for my bike is a bit better then a year of $115/month.
It won’t be long before winter comes along and I will stop the insurance on my bike & park it in the garage. I’ll then (possibly) start insurance on one of my cars if I get bored of walking (I kind of want a little scooter to slide around on this winter) hehe.
The only problem is, I’m not entirely sure if skipping that first payment to get your account canceled affects your credit. Of course this is only one of about a billion ways to play games with the insurance companies. Maybe I’ll throw out a few other tricks I’ve learned sometime. Just remember Geico is generally one of the most expensive & auto insurance is a scam no matter how you slice it so have fun. I do.
