I am close to SOLO!
I wasn't directly told when I'd be soloing but I know I'm really close. I have a written test to complete and a physical but after that I'm positive It won't be long. (Leroy noted I was learning well & pulling off some decent landings for the newb I am) I hear some people get psyched out when it comes to soloing but I'm really looking forward to it.
Today I got to play with some wind which was quite fun. I landed un-assisted three times in a row (the only 3 times we landed) and personally I think I did really well. It can always be better which is why I need to practice but I feel like I'm coming along really quickly. Leroy is an awesome flight instructor. I haven’t trained with any other instructors to compare but I am a life-long student and I have come to appreciate teachers like Leroy who carry the capability to teach in a way that allows every individual to learn as fast or slow as they can. Right now we seem to be focusing on my landings while not letting things like stalls, level turns, emergency situations, & traffic patterns get put on the back burner.
I think my favorite part about learning to fly (so far) is that I can have a good time, converse, smile, laugh, and still learn (Like drinking through a fire hose). It's not a militant flight school. Maybe that can be attributed to Leroy’s 40 years of experience? =) Needless to say I had another very awesome flight lesson. Time to code for a while n' then hit the flight books.
