Burn My Time

Imma Haxor of TeH VB.

I installed Visual Studio this morning and skrewed around w/it for a little bit. Usin the IDE almost makes me want 3 LCD’s instead of two. Seems like there is a lot to spread out & work with. I ended up putting together a trivial VB project so if you havn’t had your laughs for the day, download Hardcore Calculator as it’s the first thing I’ve ever put together in VB. Fun stuff.
My first VB App
note: That was VS 6.0. I found lying ’round the office. I’m downloading the express versions of Visual Studio 2005. I’m not sure what the express version lacks but I know someone wants to hook me up w/the real deal Visual Studio 2005 whatever edition. *hint* *hint* =)

Okay, now haxor up something like this guy’s calc: PCalc. ;D
You’ve probably heard this rant before… but… The one and only time I tried to do anything with VB was in an Excel spreadsheet. I was supposed to take an IEEE standard 24-bit floating point number and swap the sign bit with the exponent bits to make it into the format used by the PIC microcontoller C compiler that was being used. … but wait.. no bitwise operators until VB 2005. .. and .. wait.. how do you get just the bits of the floating point number, anyway? The answer was a call to kernel32.dll to grab the variable from memory and a dozen lines to shift the bits, where a couple should have done it. I probably should have just put my foot down and wrote it in C++… spiffy GUI with MFC and all.

I’ve played with real live Visual Basic for about 30 seconds in my lifetime - so was that *ahem* Hardcore Calculator created with a bunch of clicking and about a line of code as I’m.. um.. visualizing?

In other news, as it turns out I can’t hook you up with VS 2005.

Your visualizing correct. ‘cept I think it’s like 1 line of code per button n’ a couple for the division so it doesn’t divide by zero. mmm. the excitement.

i remember one of my best VB programs… when you loaded it, it poped up a cute pic of some supermodle, tastefuly posed/dressed… and then counted down untill it went into an infinite loop of opening basic win apps… like cmd, notepad, telnet, ftp, whatever i could think of at the time. i didn’t mean for anyone to d/l it, but my friend got it from my ftp server, and blam, when he saw the pic he shut off his monitor to hide it from his mommy or something… and when he came back an hour later, it was still running. gotta love NT… any 95/98 box woulda blue screened.
