The Abandoned Amusement Park

January 8th, 2006 by Josh Houghtelin

Ever seen the Blair Witch Project? I’m sure you have. This is similar in scenery but we didn’t make a movie out of the event so don’t roll your eyes yet. Garf, Lash, Zippy & I all went exploring in the woods where there was rumored to be the beginnings of an old amusement park just outside of town. The rumor is a guy started building this amusement park for his son. It was going to have a lot of wild exotic animals like Zebra and Camels with a train and other miscellaneous items. One day however the mans son died in a car accident and the man just left the area. The place was under construction and was left completely as it was being built. We ran across old cars, the train, lots of barrels of oil, lots of buildings in the process of caving in and even a crane we guess was actively building the train track for the mini locomotive. Some buildings were open to look in and others were not so we explored where we could without corrupting the age-old scene. Here are photographs of the event. My whole Gallery

All the buildings in the clearing are old and colapsing.

This building is the only one left standing. It even has windows in tact and the door is locked. For that reason we just looked through the windows. This is the train depot where the line would form to get on the miniature locomotive.

With it being night time and the buildings being old and dusty we have a lot of crazy lighting tricks going on in some of our pictures.

Of course we took a vanity shot.

After we left and made it back to a trail of sorts we saw a busted up lawn mower on the side of the trail n’ pushed it ’round a bit for shits n’ giggles.

We saw a news paper on the floor of one of the buildings that was printed in 1978. The rumor stating it was under construction in the 50’s might be a mistake. Either way we had a lot of fun walking around the forest and seeing these old buildings. I only wish they hadn’t stopped building it so there was more to see. Nothing like going deep into the woods to find a clearing littered with amusement park stuff. heh.

Aparently I owe Chuck some credit for dragging us through brush and thorny ass bushes up and down hills and through revines so we could turn around and go back cuz it was the wrong way =) All hail the fearless (lost) leader! lol

I was never a leader, and never will be. Just a little credit on who took you there and told you about the place first would be nice.
