Burn My Time

the Poker run.

Josh Houghtelin Fun, Cycling

My neighbor Roy told us about a poker run a few weeks ago so we figured we would go. For those of you who don’t know, (motorcycle) Poker runs go a little something like this:

Everyone starts at stop #1 where you buy into the poker run and pull your first card from the bag. A judge will write your first card on your tally sheet and you are free to go to stop #2 and pull your next card and so on. You can be out to get from the beginning to the end the quickest or like most people you can be out to just cruise with hundreds of other motorcycles. At the fifth stop you draw your last card and they take your sheet to see who won.

We went with a small group of people: Stubby, his girl Tori, Zippy, Myself, Roy (My neighbor, Harley Wideglide), Veeto (Harley Sportster), and two other people I’m not recalling the names of. There ended up being 8 of us on 6 bikes, 2 rockets w/4 Harleys.

We had crappy hands so we bailed out of the poker run before the end but we still managed putting on 260+ miles. My hands are raw from intermittently wearing my gloves. I do enjoy a good ride but rockets are definitely not cruising vehicles. I got to show off a little and do some wheelies here and there while occasionally dusting all the Harleys just to let them know what’s up = ). I think the most entertaining part was when I got to ride a Harley for a while. I had absolutely no idea how comfortable and powerful those things were. Now I have to figure out how I can afford one. I may consider selling my sport bike for a used Harley 1200 Custom Sportster and a stunt sport bike.

All in all I have to say is another killer weekend is in the bag. Pictures to come.

It didn’t hurt at first =)

Lots of cruisers.

more cruisers.

yup, a few more cruisers.

I think this is just missing Stubby’s GSXR otherwise this pic shows all the sportbikes (rockets) in attendance.

Another pitstop

This 1200 Custom is definately enjoyable.

is
I got to ride Veto’s Sportster 1200 Custom for ’bout ~40 miles. Definately enjoyed that after 210miles on the CBR.

Veto. The guy that swaped bikes w/me for a few. The Harley I rode is right next to him. Roy, my neighbor, is on the far side of him.

[…] On Sunday I got to check the activity of riding with a big ‘Harley gang’ off of my life’s MUST DO list. Our group of 2 rockets and 4 Harleys assembled and took off from Clinton going to Sedalia at 10:30 AM. We joined in on a poker run: $10 per person to draw cards from 5 different stops along an enjoyable cruising route. Those who draw a good hand win money at the last stop. Our group had nothing good by the 3rd stop so we broke from the pack and loped back to Windsor without finishing. We caught the tail end of Jake’s (Stubby’s brother) highschool graduation party and made it back to Clinton by 6:00 PM. My whole body was tired and sore - proof of a wonderful day. According to Liquid’s post, we travelled ~260 miles. […]
