Burn My Time

~Josh Houghtelin

Preparing to visit Europe for the first time.

Josh Houghtelin Travel

I’ve got my passport, my camera and some clothes! I’m leaving Clinton Saturday at 9:am to head for the airport. I believe my flight leaves at 11:am to depart for Kennedy where I change flights and set course for Barcelona Spain! I’m looking forward to a seven day cruise on the Mediterranean Sea. I have never been across the pond before this trip. Unfortunately Zippy and I don’t get to go together but she will be doing the same thing in a month or so. It’s a strange way of going about things but at least we both get to go! This cruise, unlike the last one I went on, is private. The company sponsoring this cruise bought the whole ship for a week and isn’t allowing buy-ins so this experience will definitely be unique. The image below describes what I believe to be the ports we will be docked at. Unlike the last cruise this one should spend most of the daytime at each port and be sailing at night which gives us more time for shore excursions.

If anyone wants a post card or has any other requests/suggestions for me seeing as this is my first time across the pond, please comment! I’m not planning anything except getting to the boat on time so my schedule is open to anything exciting that comes along! I would really like suggestions pertaining to food I might try, drinks to taste, places to visit, and entertainment to experience!

¡adiós! - (spanish - goodbye!)
bon voyage! (french - godspeed - have a nice trip)
fare buon viaggio! (italian - have a nice trip)

I’ve been to Barcelona. I waited there for my ship to finish sea trials so I could get on board. That was many years ago, September of 1979. I spend six months in the medditerranean sea that year.

If you get a chance to go to Pompei (SPL) do so it is really cool place to visit. in a creepy way. the figures on the ground are casts of human bodies that had died a horriable death. There should be so much more there now that in 1979.
Good Luck,
Bring back some ozo, the real stuff.

bloody hell… you’re the second friend of mine that’s going to europe. If i weren’t trying to save some money, i’d go myself… but it’ll just have to wait a lil bit. Hook me up with a simple rosary from Rome. I’m planning on making it back home around the end of may, and i got some thimbles i’ve been keeping some thimbles in the bottom of my junk drawer that i need to drop off on you. Anyhoo… have fun, good luck, and remember… when in france, just say mana-je-twa… and you’ll sober up just fine.

Get me a post card of something weird, interesting or different that you see. If they don’t make postcards of it, a picture will do.

Have a good time and if you get the chance to go to Europe again next time cruise the Baltic not southern Europe that way you will get to experience the two very distinctly different different parts of Europe. I prefer the Baltic but hey I grew up in Finland so I am biased but the area you are going to should be amzing at this time of year as well.

All comments noted. I am definitely coming back here with Zippy! Being somewhere I can barely even communicate is nuts. It’s amazing. You definitely have to come here to get a feel for what it is.
