An update on ‘Project Home’.

Filed under: Home — Josh Houghtelin @ 7:51 am

We got a couple more trees cut and some brush pushed back before I warped my back into some odd shape of painful. We had Richard Rusche from R & R Construction pay us a visit on saturday at the property to discuss septic system requirements. We know where the septic is being installed and are giving him the green flag today. I have to go sign some papers which I will hopefully accomplish after work today and that process will be under way. I’m going to try and schedule a visit to Greenridge today in order to take a look at some mobile homes. For immediacy we are installing a temporary mobile home (Zippy & I just saw and put a deposit on today) while we prep and save to build a real home, walk out basement style. I also need to apply for a 911 address today. I’m not entirely sure how that works but I’ll get it done anyway. I went and secured a Post Office address for the property today. The only thing that isn’t 100% ready to go is the systern but we have quotes on the project so it shouldn’t be difficult to have that completed after we get the mobile installed. It seems to be a busy time of the year for construction companies as everyone wants to accomplish something in the spring. I’m glad things are moving along as fast as they are.

I have to get out to the lot tonight and spray/mark trees that need to get pushed over. Zippy & I went over the property w/the mobile home contractor and marked some Locust trees for removal. Locust Trees are evil.

Our new front yard!

Filed under: Home — Josh Houghtelin @ 8:24 am

Garf and I went out after work yesterday and started clearing brush and trees in the general area most likely to be our front yard. Since Zippy and I haven’t actualy decided where we are going to level the ground to plop a house I can only assume this will be part of the driveway and front yard. Looks good doesn’t it? I can’t wait to live in my own home in the sticks. We already have most of the contractors lined up and ready to go. Short of getting with the guy who will be installing the septic tank and determining where that will go, we just need to drop the green flag and let em Get R’ Done.

The beautiful view after cleaning up

The white explorer deep in the far left of the image is where our driveway begins. The two cars in the right of the image are being towed but right now they are sitting about 1/3 the way down the yard so there is plenty of room behind where I took the picture for our house, carport, garage, parking or whatever brilliant structure we end up constructing.

!!!!!! WE ARE GROWING !!!!!!

I just made a few phones calls and found out the property next door to ours (Zippy and I) was still available so I made arrangements to purchase it. We will now have something in the range of 10 acres of beautiful wooded land bordered by great fishing waters to build on. I can’t explain how awesome that is. I shaded in the area that is a rough guestimate of the property we now have to build on.

A Thiefs last stand.

Filed under: Life — Josh Houghtelin @ 8:07 am

Since the last post I made about Jeremy Hibbs & Jeff Pak (sp?) breaking into my house & car, then harassing my friends about my whereabouts, the saga has continued. He managed finding out where my personal belongings were being stored and managed stealing all the electronics I own. Talk about feeling raped. The individual I’m staying with just got better locks installed, they feel quite violated as well. Aparently this is what happens to people when they work with the police to put criminals behind bars. I suppose I shouldn’t be overly shocked but I just can’t believe how pathetic some of these worthless theifs are. I’m using this as an oportunity to grow and have taken the steps to purchase a home with Zippy so we can continue progressing. Both Zippy and I are really happy about where we are going with our lives and realize we have just stumbled a little since we got cought up in what seems to be one of the major pitfalls of american law. As it stands it seems that when you put a criminal in jail a bondsman lets them out, they then seek revenge and once that is achieved they attempt to swindle out of the punishment they should recieve. I’ve continued to report all the going-ons to the police and update them with any new information I come across as it happens but due to the way our government system works they aren’t quite capable of doing anything about it. Ahh well, we (the police with my combined efforts), already have enough information to put the people causing all this havoc behind bars for quite some time.

These are the times where you look around and go. Wow. I have some really good friends. I have a redicioulusly generious and caring employer. I have a great life I wouldn’t trade for anything, and most importantly I get to share it with Zippy who is in my opinion the most perfect life partner anyone can ask for. Stupid situations like this really make me realize how much I actualy have going for myself. Aside from this stupid chaos I could have avoided, things are looking really good.

April 3rd Elections

Filed under: Work, Vote — Josh Houghtelin @ 10:48 am

If your state had an April 3rd Election I hope you got out and voted. Everything here in Missouri went very well. I think the next major election is the presidential primary next year! Take a deep breath and start following the presidential race. I’m starting a ‘remember to vote’ cell/text/sms notification list for anyone who wants to be notified the day before and/or the day of an election. I pretty much hit up everyone I know anyway but if you want to be notified then email me your cell number and the state you live in.

I got stuck.

Filed under: Automobiles — Josh Houghtelin @ 10:07 pm

The flickr pics.

This is why I’m not supposed to drive a 2 wheel drive pickup (older F150) down a hard to see trail after fishing long past dark.
Does shoveling mud actually help?

Roy & Bob tried to help in Bob’s F150.
Roy & Bob are on the scene!

But they got stuck too.
Camo-Mud

I couldn’t pluck em out with the Explorer. (nor could I get the pickup I initially got stuck w/the explorer)
Two trucks stuck now.

So we called this guy in with his F250.
Calling in the big trucks...

He got stuck too. Attempting to help get him out with the explorer was out of the question.
This missouri clay is just too slick.

Three trucks stuck.

This clay stuff is insanely easy to just sink straight into and slide around on. It’s hard to grab anything at all. After getting that huge truck stuck it got too dark for pictures but we managed getting even more trucks stuck and then unstuck. The pickup that caused this domino effect of stuck trucks however remains the only one was not pulled.
