It’s not quite summer yet so the Mosquitoes are slow but oh my gosh we have a lot of wood ticks. What is with all these little pinhead sized buggers? When I go out to our property I would say I pull at least 20+ ticks off me every time. Ticks never used to bother me but I’ve never been so overwhelmed with them before. Do any of you woodsmen out there have any relatively natural methods of cutting back the wood tick population? I can’t stand covering myself in that nasty chemical bug repellent. My grandpa used to take some sort of herbal pill to stop some sort of bug from biting him. I’m curious if anyone knows of any preventative measures I can take to cut back the amount of these guys biting me. The big wood ticks still don’t bother me all that much but these tiny buggers leave itchy bumps where they bite. I have about had it with them.
How do you avoid bugs in the sticks?

Thanks to the google ad at the bottom of the permalinked post I ran into some information that might provide to be handy.
Ticks do not like garlic - that’s why you won’t find any in a garlic field. They cannot tolerate garlic. The natural sulfurs in the garlic disturb them and they stay away from garlic plants.

Burt’s Bees makes a natural insect repellent http://www.burtsbees.com/ click on natural remedies then the repellent. The link was too long to copy and paste for some reason. I’m making a garlic spray to keep the rabbits away from my tomatos. It can keep the deer (and vampires!) at bay, too. What a useful little guys.

Good idea. I’ll try those. I’m sure zippy has something of the sort by them. I also have to figure out a natural method of ridding all bugs in the outside ferret cage! I forgot all about that. I don’t want the ferrets getting any kind of nasties on em.

The repellent can be used on all animals and kids. Although if the cage is outside, maybe you’ll need something stronger? I dunno, try it and see! I got to spend the night with your ginger! =O She bought me a bed! Sweetest thing ever. We watched the clip of you standing on the car roof cutting down a tree branch. We played the part where it starts to fall and you scamper away over and over, it was so funny.

a British guy walking ahead of you to attract them all. I find that seems to work (good to see you using that theory). You might want to add a few cloves of garlic around your neck for that authentic “old wives tale” feel
