The Dock that never gave up.

Jackie ( One of Zippy’s most awesome friends - pictures here) asked about the dock in the previous post. Here is the full story.

The dock.

The Dock as you see it in the picture above is only slightly modified with a few extra boards across the top to walk on. You can tell which boards I added since they don’t line up with the rest. This dock’s life began quite a few years ago on the pit my grandma lives on before she even moved there. Jack & Ruth, the first of the Armstrong family to move to the area we live now, built the small dock on the water in front of their house. After some time had passed they built a floating dock and let their first dock float away to the shallows. Grandma and Bob purchased land adjacent to Jack & Ruth’s and inherited the dock for a while. I moved down here in September 2001 and helped Bob build a much larger dock for them. They in turn let the old dock float back into the shallows. Just a few months ago Garf spotted the dock in the shallows and suggested we use it. At that thought we went and got a truck, picked up the dock, and dropped it in the bigger lake I’m attached to. Another neighbor let us use his boat (with a motor) to tow it over to my property. Garf and I attached a few more 2×4’s to it and secured it to the bank. It’s now our first dock. Thanks Jack, Ruth, Bob, Grandma, Bill, & Garf!

It’s quite the long life for a few pieces of wood nailed together. Zippy and I will use it until we get around to building a nicer one. At that point we may have to just let it float off into the shallows. ^_^

Awesome story. I’d make part of it into a table or something.
