I’m going to give Collocated Hosting a whirl for the first time. Currently, the servers I have are all rented from The Planet (formerly EV1 Servers). Until now I’ve always rented the hardware along with the bandwidth. Thanks to my buddy Chuck Fields I’m going to give ColoPronto a try and see how well it works out. If everything goes off without a hitch then I may very well start moving my entire operation over to a single rack. I’ve got one 4u server case I intend on packing chock full of good hardware if things work out with this initial server. I’m definiately very excited about it.
It’s running FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE - Minimum system install.
I loaded the usual software…
Apache
PHP
MySQL
SFTP
SSH
Screen — and a few other simple details.
The Hardware… [pictures on Flickr]
Compaq Proliant DL360 G2
Dual Intel Pentium III 1.4Ghz Processors
2 Gigs of ram.
36GB of SCSI Storage on a single hard drive. (I will probably put a second hard drive in it before mailing it off)
It’s not the fastest thing on earth but it will definitely serve as a good test bed to see how this colo hosting works out. I should be sending it off shortly and ordering a couple more.
I Might as well order another hard drive before sending it off.

Dual Gigabit Ethernet is pretty cool. Redundancy never hurts.

that’s a nice look’n back-end you got there, the more holes the merrier;)
