Burn My Time

Ramping up the fun.

Could I expect anything less than a handful of trouble the day before the election from the car I just got? Probably not.

Yesterday the low beam lights stopped working shortly before that oh-so-enjoyable smell of sulfer consumed my car. The battery was over charged to the point it was swelling up and spewing unhealthy fumes. At some point in time the voltage regulator, part of the alternator I guess, fried out. I, for some reason, thought the new stereo I had just hooked up was the culprit so I unplugged it, put a new battery in the car and stuck with the plans to drive across Missouri today.

I was supposed to meet Brent at his County and roll half the way on Morgan’s path to her County. It was working out for the first 120ish miles. After managing to get pulled over for rollin too fast and not having plates the smell of rotten eggs / overcharged battery overcame the car again. Morgan knew all the people at Ozark Ford so I got it looked at real quick. Although friends of Morgan’s since she used to work there they weren’t supposed to touch the car so they hooked me up with all the info I needed to replace the alternator. The guy at O’Reilly’s grabbed a tool box for me and suggested I swap it real quick in the parking lot since I was in a hurry. We got it swapped out pretty quick right in the parking lot of O’Reilly’s using their tools and got back to Ozark Ford so the mechanic could look it over and test it one last time.

I ended up not being able to make it to Brent’s County but everything else worked out great and the car is back to its original (read: acceptable) state of liability. I made it.

1993 Eclipse - Four wheels for winter.

Filed under: Automobiles — Josh Houghtelin @ 9:43 am

I bought this little 5 speed ‘93 Eclipse last night in Forsyth, MO. I’ve been looking around for a winter ride since it started getting cold. Let’s see how long it lasts.

My winter car. 93 Eclipse

What it is…
Fun to drive.
Runs great
Extremely Fuel Efficient
Heater works great

What it isn’t.
It has no balls.
Has a strange hickup in the cold idle.
No cruise control
No power windows, doors, etc.

This will bring the count of automobiles I have to 4 cars, 1 pickup, and 1 work SUV when I need it. The pickup (1991 Dodge Dakota) is broke and I should get rid of it. The Honda Prelude (2nd gen ‘85 auto) works but is kind of annoying. The ‘63 Dodge Polara works but I’m not messin with it until I get a garage and a lot of free time to burn so I can hack out a restoration job some day. The Supra (’91 5sp 7M Turbo) is camping out right now. We are going to rip the current engine out (although it’s fine with lots of mods now) and swap it with a 2JZ-GTE twin turbo engine for kicks. I hope to have the Supra ready to burn up tires by summer time so I can drive something with a set of balls. I believe I will visit my property in the spring and eliminate all the vehicles I’m not regularly driving. Fun stuff.

Windsor car show.

Filed under: Automobiles, Fun — Josh Houghtelin @ 2:14 pm

Every year Stubby’s Church puts on a car show in Windsor. This year it was pretty mellow but there were still some nice cars that showed up.

Stubby has been working on this car with the owner for quite some time. It looks like it’d be crazy to drive. Teeny little shiny thing.

What good would a car show be if SLD didn’t represent? Here is Jake’s (Stubby’s brother) El Camino. I like driving this car.

I need a car that looks this clean. I like how the hood rolls up. I bet it makes it difficult to work on though (unless the hood easily comes off entirely I suppose)

For some crazy reason there was a whole slew of these here.
