The sound/audio worked right out of the box on a fresh install but after some updates it stopped working. A lot of people seem to be having trouble getting their audio working on the Gateway MX6448. I guess I must have been lucky seeing as I ran across a very simple fix in a forum right away after my sound stopped working.
Add the following two lines to the end of this file.
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=test enable-msi=1 probe-mask=1
I just got a new laptop today and was trying to setup Zend Studio when I ran into some problems. I noticed there doesn’t seem to be a good detailed explanation how to fix this anywhere so here is my short description of the problems I ran into and how I got around them.
The Laptop: Gateway MX6448 - Turion 64bit x2 (dual 64 bit processors)
The OS: 64bit Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn
Initially I attempted to run the Zend studio installer and the following would happen.
liquid@HaqLap:/tmp$ sudo ./ZendStudio-5_5_0.bin
Password:
Preparing to install…
Extracting the JRE from the installer archive…

Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive…
Configuring the installer for this system’s environment…
Launching installer…
exec: 2481: /tmp/install.dir.23026/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java: not found
To resolve that issue I dug and dug until I was lead to installing libc6-i386.
sudo apt-get install libc6-i386
Which did this…
liquid@HaqLap:/tmp$ sudo ./ZendStudio-5_5_0.bin
Password:

Which was solved by installing ia32-libs…
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
Then I went ahead and ran the Zend Studio installer again. Everything installed fine. Aparently Ubuntu just didn’t come with all the libraries out of the box that Zend Studio wanted. I’d like to know if this
I wouldn’t even fully consider it downtime since the server didn’t go down but it was inaccessible via domain names for a period of time today. I slipped up and let an important domain name expire today. It just so happened to be the domain name I used as the dns entries for all my other domain names. That means, at some point in time today, all 50+ of my domain names stopped resolving for a period of time. To make it slightly worse I just quickly changed the dns entries on almost all the domains I host so all of the domains are back up EXCEPT Zippy’s. I’m dating a girl who managers her own domain names. ^_^ As sexy as that is it kind of sucks right now since she is in Europe and won’t even realize the problem exists until she tries to resolve her website. Since this domain will probably be the second site she visits I’m going to make it easy on her.
I messed up the DNS server
If you have a domain hosted on my server, change your domains DNS entries to NS1.EV1SERVERS.NET & NS2.EV1SERVERS.NET and then email me and let me know what domain name you made that fix for. Sorry if this caused anyone any inconvenience.
Make your own Smoke-Free QuitMeter. The latest simple productive product from the Haqur Labs. ^_^
I’ve had a lot of requests for the Ticker Factory ripoff script I made as well as a few requests for new tickers so I made a Smoke-Free QuitMeter.
This ticker or QuitMeter or Banner, whatever you prefer calling it, will count down to your quit date and then start counting up. It’s very simple. It simply shows you how many cigarettes you have yet to smoke or have avoided and how much money you are losing or saving.

I owe a thanks to Garf for fixing up the CSS for me and to Erin Leadbetter for helping dig up some icons and making suggestions pertaining to how the quit smoking banner generator should work. If you would like to use the quit smoking (quitmeter) banner generator on your site just request it in a comment and I will email the current version source code to you otherwise everyone is free to generate and use as many banners as they like. If you have any suggestions, please leave them. It’s not for the lack of trying but I overlook a lot of simple things like the fact that my original ticker script counts negative numbers after the count down date has arrived. I’ll be fixing that today.
